Who Do You Think Is Funny?
Follow the search for the next great Welsh comedy star as seventy plucky wannabes are narrowed down to only two.
Funny Business is a newly commissioned BBC series which is filming
a search for new comic talent, following agent and director Ian Franklin
of The
Comedy Club as
he auditions for potential comic stars in venues across Wales, from Wrexham
to Cardiff.
The whole process is currently being filmed fly-on-the-wall style by
Dai4Films -
the award winning Welsh TV Company that discovered the Spice Girls,
filming them from their first meeting to the release of their first
single. The resulting programme, called Raw Spice, got a 10 million
audience and won best documentary of the year.
But this time it's Welsh wannabe comedians that get the Dai4films treatment.
As director Neil Davies from Dai4films explains...
"...The BBC are very
clear they don’t want a reality humiliation
type show, but an observational series that uncovers genuine Welsh talent
and helps it break into comedy and get on TV. The series will to get
to know the comics and see how nerve wracking the Funny Business can
be. Comics tell you that stand-up is like being the goalie in a world
cup penalty shoot out, make a mistake and it could all be over."
The Final took place on Sunday 13th of May and was a great night. The standard
was so high there were nearly six winners!
In end, after much agonizing two winners emerged...
For them this is not the end, it is just the beginning as they embark on an international tour and £30-000 contract with the Comedy Club. We can all follow them on the roller coaster ride to stardom when the TV series, made by Dai4films for BBC Wales hits your screens in the new year...
